Causes of Tooth Ache
Causes of Tooth Ache

Poor oral hygiene can lead to toothache and pain in or around a tooth that can be sharp, throbbing, or constant. Some symptoms of toothache include fever, swelling around the tooth, and foul odor from the mouth.
Minor toothaches can be treated at home. More serious toothaches, however, will need to be treated by a dentist. Below are the top five causes of toothache.

Cavity/Tooth Decay

The most common cause of toothaches is a
dental cavity. Cavities create small holes in your tooth. Cavities also form when your saliva mixes with sugary foods.

Tooth decay can cause pain when biting or eating something sweet or acidic. You would need to see a dentist in Nairobi to get a filling before the cavity causes more severe problems.

While waiting for your dental appointment, apply simple salt water and rinse to ease your pain.

Gum Disease
Poor dental hygiene can cause gum disease. Over time, bacteria will cause your gums to red, bleed, and swell.
As you wait to schedule an appointment with a dentist in Nairobi, make sure you brush your teeth effectively and use an antibacterial mouthwash.

Injury

Toothache is a dental injury resulting in a broken tooth or knocked-out tooth.

If this happens to you, make an appointment with your dentist in Nairobi to fix the tooth immediately.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth can cause pain when impacted or fail to break through the gumline.
Ensure you remove wisdom teeth when they’re ready to come out to avoid any related pain.

When your wisdom teeth are ready to come out, you’ll see a possibly red area in the back of your mouth.

This pain only increases as your wisdom teeth grow, especially if they grow sideways.

As you plan for your dental appointment in Nairobi, gargling with salty water and coconut oil can help ease your wisdom toothaches, hence recommended as a home treatment.

Teeth Grinding/Bruxism

Bad dental habits such as teeth grinding can cause toothache.

The pain is associated with the temporomandibular joint that connects the jaw to the skull, enabling you to eat and talk.
Wearing a mouth guard to bed can help protect your teeth if you grind your teeth at night. You can also eat more vitamin-rich foods to reduce calcium deficiency.

Abnormal Bite

Like teeth grinding, an abnormal bite also causes temporomandibular joint syndrome.

An abnormal bite can cause difficulty or discomfort when biting or chewing.
Surgery can fix an abnormal bite, remove one or more teeth, or use braces and other appliances.

See a Dentist for a toothache.

Proper diagnosis and treatment of dental infections are essential to prevent them from spreading to other body parts and even the bloodstream.

At Galana Dental Centre, we offer comprehensive dental care services to help you get relief fast from your toothache. Call us today to schedule your appointment!
